Tal Amitai-Lavi (b.1969, Israel) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, and video. Her works are characterized by an intense devotion to meticulous craft and time-consuming processes, minimalism, and exquisite attention to detail. Deeply rooted in her private biography, her creations simultaneously carry broad cultural, social, and political resonance.

Throughout her career, Amitai-Lavi has developed a unique visual language that centers on the essence of material. Aiming to "turn straw into gold," she chooses to work with humble, everyday, non-traditional substances—such as sewing threads, nylon strings, baking soda, and kinetic sand—investigating their potential to gain significance as high-art objects.

Her work consistently interrogates the concept of "Home," questioning the physical and psychological security, stability, and protection it promises. This preoccupation is deeply anchored in her childhood, spent wandering construction sites alongside her father, who was a builder and contractor. Visuals of building skeletons, exposed concrete castings, sand instead of flooring, and ramps instead of staircases left an indelible imprint on her consciousness, manifesting in her works as fragile architectural constructions suspended in a state of liminality—simultaneously present and absent.

Tal Amitai-Lavi holds an MFA from the University of Haifa, and her work has been exhibited extensively in leading institutions both in Israel and internationally; she has presented numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art and the prominent alternative art space Locust Projects in Miami. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Petach Tikva Museum of Art, the Haifa Museum of Art, the Museum of Israeli Art, Ramat Gan, the Wilfrid Israel Museum, and the Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv.

On the international stage, she was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Arte Laguna Prize in Venice, Italy, and has exhibited at the Nakanojo Biennale in Japan, as well as in group exhibitions worldwide, including in London, Germany, and the United States, among others. Furthermore, she has been invited to international artist residency programs, including the acclaimed Fountainhead Residency in Miami. Her works are included in distinguished public and private collections, both in Israel and abroad.

Tal Amitai-Lavi is the recipient of coveted awards and grants from Artis, Sotheby's, the Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Independent Creators Foundation, and the Israel National Lottery Council for the Arts.
